Second Hustings

A big thank you to all who came along to the second hustings of the political campaign in North West Durham. It was held at the Castleside Club, and despite it being a beautiful sunny evening the club was packed full. I hope everyone enjoyed it.

Dr Tempest,

Although I wasn't able to make your hustings, I have heard that you were a great success and got a louder and longer round of applause than Pat Glass - well done! Keep up the good work! I just wish I'd been there to see the event first hand...

Vote for change!

I was there - my first meaningful engagement with the election campaign locally - and was disappointed with the way Pat Glass floundered over the crucial issues in this election.

As the Institute for Fiscal Studies pointed out earlier in the campaign, by the eve of the financial crisis, seven years of "fiscal drift" had left the UK with one of the largest structural budget deficits in the developed world. Labour had undermined the foundations of the economy even before the crisis struck!

"Saving for a rainy day" is obviously not in the Labour lexicon.

Michelle was the only candidate last night who was able or willing to effectively spell out the scale of this economic mismanagement and the consequences for us all.

We need a Conservative government to begin the process of rebuilding economic credibility so that the public services we all value so much can be maintained.
